Since the time of the Buddha Shakyamuni (560-489 B.C.E), singing bowls have been used for meditation and ceremony. They are most often sounded with a wooden mallet or rubbed around the rim to produce a harmonic convergence of the seven metals most traditionally used in their construction. These sound vibrations are known to affect consciousness and induce a soothing, relaxing state. |
