Medicine Buddha is worshipped as the dispenser of spiritual medicine that can cure spiritual, psychological, and physical disease. He has made 12 vows to help those who call upon him when ill or injured, and to aid those who revere him to achieve a long and healthy life. Through the practice of meditation on the Medicine Buddha, one can generate enormous healing power for self as well as helping others find their innate healing potential. He holds in his lap a bowl of lapis lazuli in which is an arura or myrobalan plum. Lapis is Latin for stone and has been associated with healing at least since the time of Sumerian goddesses. As Amitabha is the Buddha of the Pure Land of the Western Paradise, the Medicine Buddha is the Buddha of the Pure Land of the Eastern Paradise. $312
